Forum:
Hi, the engine management light has started to appear on the dash. There is no loss of power and the car functions as it normally did but this light now appears when starting and seems to go off when the engine temp is at its normal level.
If the car is turned off for a 5-10 minutes then on again the light will come on again but still go off when engine is at normal.
Anything i can check and how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. We are in cyprus and i think we are the only ones on the island with a YRV so parts is a HUGE problem here.
Thanks
Disconnect the positive
Disconnect the positive battery terminal for a few seconds to reset ECU.
Then see what happens
hey, thanks for the advice
hey, thanks for the advice but it didnt seem to work, anything else i can check?
You need to see what the
You need to see what the error code is that's making the light come on. To do that you need to get hold of a diagnostic tool such as a scangauge that plugs into the OBD-II port. Or you will be guessing at anything. Such as O2 sensor etc...

Yes OBDII is pretty good at pin-pointing where the fault is, without it you could be chasing the fault for ages.
Any garage these days should have the gadget to plug in and read ECU, that's the whole beauty of the OBDII system.
And the more basic ones are very cheap to buy yourself on Ebay.

With the engine seeming like its running fine then i'd guess its one of the Lamda's (oxygen sensors). The ecu will use average values to run.... probably wasting fuel in the process.
It will be money well spent to get either a Scanguage as Jon suggests....its alot more than just a diagnostic tool or just a decent diagnostic reader off ebay.
Better to know exactly whats at fault rather than guess by replacing part after part.
Creader V or similar readers are around £50. Choose carefully...some only show the code and others also state what the code means.
