So I want to upgrade my Sportrak's speakers, any reccomendations?

Forum:

Since only one of my speakers work in my sportrak, and it's pretty rubbish anyway, I think it's time for an upgrade. I would like to fit 2 average/good quality speakers in the front, and maybe a small sub at a later date. I don't expect much will fit in the space where the speakers are currently mounted, plus I can't seem to get to them without dismantling the entire front trim. I expect to leave the speakers in place (disconected) and fix some new ones into the doors.

Any reccomendations? I would like the best quality availabe second hand or new for no more than about £50, idealy less. I don't really want to have to replace my head unit.

I appreaciate maybe it's a question better asked elsewhere but I figured I'd get the opinion of fellow Daihatsu Drivers!

Thanks very much

p.s. it's a base Xi model so has the simplest only 2 front speakers configuration

To be honest, Might be worth

To be honest, Might be worth to start with keeping the factory speakers, and just fit a small 10" sub box (built in amp is easiest).

If you upgrade the front speakers it will sound bit better no doubt, but still not great with the amount of wind/tyre noise that cancel out the deeper frequencies.

You'd be amazed at how the depth of a small sub will make the original front speakers sound perfectly fine, Just adjust the treble up high and bass low enough on them, and loudness off so they don't distort much when turned up, and then adjust the bass box volume/frequency to suit.

I have had a good look on

I have had a good look on ebay for subs actually. Problem ususally being their compatibility with the facotry head unit or them being too big for the sportrak's tiny boot, I would like to tuck it on the door hinge's side of the boot, which means beside the roll bar and therefore a fair bit less room. If you have any particular subs in mind I'm all ears!

I've got one of these in my

I've got one of these in my YRV and it's superb, It's about the smallest box with built in amp you will find, but sounds huge!

Has got speaker input connection as well as the RCA phono type, so you can just hook up your speaker wires if you wish.

Thanks for the link, the

Thanks for the link, the built in amp is so tempting but I don't think it will fit in the sportrak's boot! Maybe I'll have to go for a smaller passive one, I think I could accomodate an amp elsewhere. As for the front speakers, I've got my eye on these

Any thoughts on them? I think they would have to go in the doors, and I'm a bit worried that the trim won't be rigid enough for them.

Thank you again

Sportrak Speakers

I reckon you should fit 2 average/good quality speakers in the front, and maybe a small sub at a later date. There won't be much space where the speakers are currently mounted, plus it is unlikely you will get to them without dismantling the entire front trim. So it's probably best to leave those speakers in place, but disconected, and fix some new ones into the doors.

The best speakers to get are good quality second hand or new for no more than about £50, idealy less.

Thank you! Could you have a look at these please?

Thanks for your comment, what you say is exactly what I'm planning on doing! I had my eye on these which are component speakers, a little more expensive than you suggested though.

However I have since found these co-axial ones which look identical just in one frame and nearly half the price!

The RMS is slightly lower but I will only be powering from my old sportrak head unit to start with so the £30 less is very appealing. Any thoughts between the 2 speakers?

Thank you for your help
