Terios 2001-2005

Forum:

Evening All, new to the Forum scene, so please bear with me. I am looking to purchase a 1.3 Terios, 2001 - 2005 model. Whilst I am aware that most cars have their issues, I wonder if anyone can advise me what typical issues to look out for, as it will be the first 4x4 I have bought, such things as timing chains, sensors failing, transfer box, etc etc etc. I presume being a Jap, parts & spares are on the costly side ????? & can they handle a bit of mileage Unknw
Not particularly spanner happy, I would usually use a garage to fix em, but I would hate to get my fingers burnt.
Also what are they like on fuel, being a 1.3 I would expect reasonable economy Unknw
I dont expect to be doing any major off road work, but what are they like on the slippy stuff etc Unknw
Any pointers would be greatfully appreciated !!!
Cheers

Terios 2001-2005

Hi, If your thinking to buy a Terios first check for Service History as this is very Important and try and go for resonably low milage,as there are many out there with 60k 70k 80k+ miles. As you say parts are of the pricey side,I just fitted to my 06 Terios a new set of pan hard rod bushes double type inner & outer that cost £60 and £25 for the plain one, could not get these as after market type, these are one of the weak spots on the Terios!! just drive over rough ground and you will feel the back end tends to sway about a bit, but easy enough to fix all and all they are really bullet proof, just make sure you do a good service on it,change the front diff oil as this sits below the engine and tends to get cooked by the heat off the engine sump ,in fact change all the transmission oils plus the engine oil and filter as this is the life of any car etc. As for fuel economy I get about 40ish out of my Terios so not to bad on the Dear juice, after all it is 4 wheel drive all the time and great off road or in snow just fit good M&S tyres and you should have no trouble with traction, Hope this helps a little Shugy.

Many thanks for the info,
