Air bag warning light stays on

Forum:

I have a Daihatsu Grand Move Automatic and according to the Manual for it, the Air Bag Warning Light is suppossed to glow for 6 seconds after ignition and then go out.

What is happening is that it is glowing but doesn't go out and stays on.

This seems to be an intermittent fault and seems to have corrrected itself in that it now does what it should.

When it was playing up I took it to my local garage for a diagnostic but he had no success with his machine and suggested I take it to a Daihatsu Dealership but I am struggling to find one near me and would like to know if anyone has experienced this problem and what the outcome was. Thanks for the 2 comments, thought it would be an MOT failure!

Further to my earlier post (21st November 2011)I took the above to a Kia Garage and had the necessary diagnostics done, so for £71.94 I have found out that the problem is Code 41 Drivers Pre Tensioner-fault recorded and requires replacement, then once that is done it will need to go in again so that they can clear the memory of the code problem as even if you have the work carried out, the faulty flash does not automatically clear itself! I was quoted about £270.00 for this as apparantly this code means that a part needs replacing that makes the airbag actually explode and work. The part is like an explosive device. I am tomorrow taking it to my local garage who can now investigate the problem further, now that we have something (the code) to go on. I have explained what I have been told but he said that sometimes even though that code shows up it can be an electrical problem running from that part to elsewhere and only manual investigation will show itself, becaue the machine is only geared up to show what it is programmed to find as it can't actually see what the true problem is and will say it is that part that is the problem. I have been told that most times it is not the actual part as mentioned but a break/or problem with the wiring which can be caused by the constant amending/changing the seat, it registers as that code.
I will post further once I know what the problem is.

Air Bag Light

My YRV has had the Bag light popping on for years.. Only comes on at start up. Can get it to go off most times by either switching off the ignition and back on again.
If it still remains on then i give the seat belt a couple of quick tugs and that then sorts it Smile

Air Bag Light

Thanks for your reply. I hear what you are saying but I only want the light to go out if the problem has gone away. Yes, you are getting the light to go off but is the problem with an air bag still there. However much it pains me financially, for the sake of your safety you really need to have it checked out, so if there is a problem you can get it sorted, surely you don't want to find out that your air bags didn't work when its too late. Plus as the other post points out it will be an MOT failure. You might be luckier than me, you could perhaps have a diagnostic done at a local garage and be told what is wrong.

a mechanic mate of mine for cars pointed out alot of the time the light can be associated with the seatbelt potentiometer being faulty, just a thought

Air Bag Warning Light

Thanks for your reply, I suspected it would be an MOT failure. Thank goodness I have a while to sort it out as this is so far not a cheap fix. To find out what the problem was has cost £71.94! just to have a diagnostic code. I tried taking it to 2 local garages who both had no success with the diagnostic machine and both would have only charged £30, so unfortuneately had to go to the dealer. I am dreading taking it tomorrow because unless it is an electrical problem/or he can order the necessary part, I can see it costing a pretty penny. But got to have it done for safety primarily but MOT secondary. I also think in the future a big proportion of vehicles will fail for similar things.
Thanks once again.
