Hi, does anyone know where i can buy a new cat for my 1.3 yrv 4trak? I've tried all the usual cat2u websites etc and can't find the yrv listed. Is it the same as any other daihatsu cat or is it part of a unique exhaust?

Maybe dealer only, not 100%
Maybe dealer only, not 100% sure on that though. I will do some investigation.
Why do you need? They should never need replacing on these.
never need replacing?
a Cat that never needs replacing? I suspected that potentially they all did eventually, anyway I am just trying to get an idea of potential costs and availability...I have the engine warning light on and my OBD2 reader says it's the Lambda sensor, which it isn't as that has been changed, (unless the k3 engine has 2 sensors? one pre cat and one post cat) however it could still show as the lambda sensor if the cat is failing and producing more back pressure (it could also be several other things including a simple air leak etc).
Thanks for any investigations you can do.
There are 2 sensors. One on
There are 2 sensors. One on the Exhaust and one before in the engine bay. It's normally the sensor that will fail.

success....for a bit.
Well I changed the O2 sensor in the manifold a month ago (thanks for the info pointing out there were 2 sensors). All fault codes were cleared and the cars been running well, although I felt I detected an extremely slight flat spot at around 2500 - 3000 rpm. Yesterday the engine warning light came on again and the fault code comes back as O2 sensor, Bank 1 sensor 1. I can't believe that the sensors are faulty again, but rather there is something underlying that is giving the O2 sensor a reason to complain, e.g. wrong amount of air, fuel or spark... I'm wondering about coil packs, spark plugs, air flow sensors etc, etc. Any ideas anyone or if it says bank 1 sensor 1 is it certainly the sensor at fault?
thanks.
Well i said never, slight
Well i said never, slight exageration of course!
But i would hope for big mileage like 200+k with this style of catalyst.
They don't tend to break up and close in on themselves like the older styles.
If that did happen, You also really notice a drop off in engine performance at higher revs.
cat
The Turbo's cat is different than the other YRV's.....due to the manifold design to bolt onto the Turbo unit.
Also they are self cleaning cats and should last like Nathan says a long long time to almost the cars lifespan. Something Daihatsu working with Toyota developed first i believe
Upper O2 sensor is easy to spot on the exhaust manifold and the lower can be seen if you stick your head under and just look at the exhaust past the bend.....you should see a bracket with shield.
