hi im new to the fourtrak just got a g reg fourtrack 2.8 dx natrualy asperated only thing is on the g reg one there is a hell of a noise from the transmision so a doner fourtrack was found only thing is its an e reg turbo 2.8 is anything different transmision wise eg diff ratio splines on the input shaft ect any help is welcombe as i am stumbling in the dark with this thanks mike

yes, you'll have a bit of a power issue, a genuine tdi box is geared different to an n/a box, the n/a box being lower ratio with the lower powered engine, everything will fit though, transfer box is all the same.

hi ive just fitted a tdi gearbox to my K reg fourtrak and the oracle is correct, i have a power issue, but she still drives great and plenty of tourqe etc, all the gubbins are the same i think the way we did ours was to angle grind the old spline shaft off of the old gearbox to locate the clutch properly but didnt have to modiify it at all, just cut off th vaccum hoses etc but be sure to locate your wires for the 4wd light and reverse, other than that it was a *heavy* piece of cake!,
my trak hates hills though, the hill, well, mountain out in glenshee up to the ski slopes i find myself in 2nd all the way up!!!!! i guess with a turbo box and engine you'd be in 3rd or 4th!.

thanks alot for the advice have done the swaps now front axle gear box and tranfer and no loss on power the turbo engine was a very early one kinda looked as if the blower was an after thought on the n/a 2.8 but hey ho all good now thanks again mike

didnt bother
didnt look tbh was an all nighter doing it as the transfer box was a vacum type and mine is manual so i had to use the gears and bearings from the new one and the selectors from mine had an absolute mare of a time put it all back together and then found i couldnt get any gears out of the transfer so striped it all down to find that the ball bearing on the base of the hi lo selector had fallen out and jammed under the selector so my tip is dont work through the night working on your track after doing an 18 hour work day
