Identify a relay

Forum:

There is a single silver cylindrical relay in the drivers footwell of my 1988 F75. All the wires going to/from are totally melted and shorted from some previous electrical 'incident'.

I have taken the relay out but most things still seem to work in the car - any ideas what it was controlling?

There are no blown fuses in the footwell fusebox.

I'll try and get some pictures and wire colours to help...

Flasher.

It is possibly an indicator relay. Do the indicators work?

Most things seem to work.

Most things seem to work. Only electrical things I've noticed that don't seem to work are:
Interior light
Possibly the 4wd high switch (see my other thread)
The hard/soft suspension switch
The back door unlock swich (because it has fallen apart)

Could it be related to trailer electrics, the last owner used to tow with it...

yes

It could be heavy duty indicator unit. Older cars often needed to uprate the flasher relay to get trailer indicators to work in unison with the car.
