Fuel Pipe

Forum:

The fuel pipe on my 4trak has just about had it, and I am being told that is it difficult to replace - does anyone know if there is an easy access to the fuel pipe?

Cut the affected area of pipe

Cut the affected area of pipe and replace with high pressure rubber hose and hose clips. Perfectly acceptable repair in terms of MOT.

if you take of the rear

if you take of the rear drivers side tyre, you can get a fair way in to the tank to get the fuel line, and like has been said, replace with rubber or modern plastic pipe.

its whats been done on mine and it has passed 2 mots now.

For extra piece of mind where

For extra piece of mind where the rubber hose goes over the metal pipe, if you can push the hose on far enough you can use 2 x hose clips on each end.

Much prefer the 8 or 10mm

Much prefer the 8 or 10mm copper pipe used in plumbing, but this cannot come int contact with steel as electrolytic reaction corrodes the steel.

What I do is replace the steel with copper pipe and put a flare on each end, fit plastic clips from plumbers merchants to the chassis as the originals are brittle and snap, clip the copper pipe in and fit new flexible neoprene pipe over the flares at each end. Once done you never need to touch the fuel pipes again, and you know they won't ever corrode.
The flares stop the neoprene pipe coming off the copper pipe as they have something for the clips to butt up to.
