Forum:
Folks,
I have owned a Sportrak and until some kind person decided to write mine off was very ahppy with her.
I am now looking at a replacment but not certain if I should go for another Sportrak or go for a Fourtrak.
So to help me decide I would like to know the following. As I do a fair amount of towing, do they both have the same turning circle, as the Sportrak was nice and sharp, but my old Pajero only wants to go in straight lines :).
How does the Fourtrak stack up on fuel cost against the Sportstrak? Does the Fourtrak have a bigger tank as I only had about 300 miles range on the Sportrak?
Thanks in advance for any usefull information.
Mike.
The Fourtrak is a much better
The Fourtrak is a much better towing vehicle and tows up to 3500Kg which is more than your Sporty.
Fuel wise, depends on how you drive, but I have often found them comparible on road, but for towing and off road the Fourtrak diesel is better.
Basically the Sporty was a lighter duty version of the Fourtrak, and the Sporty was designed to meet a market popular for light 4X4's of the time; but the Fourtrak was always the working vehicle and has proven itself.
For me its the Fourtrak every time, it doesn't handle as well as the Sporty, but you will welcome that flat torque curve when towing.
Thanks for the input and very
Thanks for the input and very usefull. Just one item, hows the turning circle as the Sporty is nice and tight, is the fourtrak just as good?

depends on what youre towing
depends on what youre towing , but generally big is better, the larger the towing vehicle the more stable the combination is...dont forget the fourtrak also has usable boot space when seating 4.
With the Sporty towing was
With the Sporty towing was fine for what I do, but the Pajero having a much larger turning circle I can't go in the same place I could with the Sporty and turn and have to reverse out which is not always ideal. Most of my towing is below 2 tonnes.
With the Sporty, even with a jackknifed trailer I could still have sufficent lock to be able to reverse out, but the Pajero needs to be shunted.

No, not quite as good due to
No, not quite as good due to bigger tyres and the fatory being overcautious with the stops.
