Anti freeze

What anti freeze sould be used to top up my 2002 DAIHATSU TERIOS 1.3

Coolant Fluid

Geoff,

Halfords pink will do - it's what I use in my 2008 Sirion. Whatever you pick I recommend using a pre-mix (not the concentrate) because it means you don't add your local water, which may be hard, when making up the blend. It also ensures you get the correct mixture level.

Any anti-freeze will do, but

Any anti-freeze will do, but the traditional ones only last for two years while the long life ones last 4-5 years, so go for long life.
Before adding this I would recommend cleaning the cooling system as the two types don't mix as they merely form a slugde, so drain off the system and remove as many water pipes as possible, and ensure the heater is in the hot position so it drains the matrix and refills it without air locks. Flush through all these pipes with a hosepipe as water often gets trapped in areas of cooling systems, then fill it with clean water and run it fully up to temperature to remove any deposits.

Drain and fill with a cooling system cleaner and just water, follow the manufacturers recommendations for use, then drain and flush the cooling system again to remove all traces of the cleaner. Find the capacity of your cooling system and add half that amount of long life anti-freeze, then top up with water.

You could buy coolant but this is just water and anti-freeze, and you can make your own coolant very easily, get a filter jug and filter a quantity of tap water, this removes most deposits, then boil it in the kettle, cool and you have clean water which is as good as pre-mixed coolants, just add this to top up with instead of tap water.
