Forum:
Hi,
I have a 2005 Charade SL manual. This all started with a constant 'rattly' noise from the drivetrain. It's not the gearbox, so now we're guessing it's the driveshaft. It's a strange one actually. If you're driving at a constant speed and slightly depress the brake pedal with your left foot the noise stops. With the car stationary, idling in neutral, no noise - engage gear, noise... So now I'm trying to find a passenger side front driveshaft. I've tried 24/7 breakers, Breakeryard.com etc. and the only offer I had was from Jimmy's Japanese Parts, who get less than favourable reviews on this forum!!!
I've also tried ebay - one very knackered looking one, and I'm waiting for someone who's breaking a Charade to reply.
I've been told one from Daihatsu will be well over £200 and I'm beginning to think that's my only option.
If anyone has any ideas or could offer any advice or help, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks,
Nevil
Visible Play?
With the wheel off the ground can you see free play in the CV joint?
Can you be sure it isn't the wheel bearing?
If its just a noise I'd be inclined to live with it until I could either confirm my diagnosis or score a driveshaft at a good price.
But then I'm a bit ghetto-hillbilly.
No dont worry!Outer CV joint
hmm,
Well.,
Outer CV joint is a common problem on these.
They are just a bit weak so dont last huge mileage.
Daihatsu will only sell the whole driveshaft.
But you can buy brand new outer CV joints in the aftermarket!
£18.99 each
