Forum:
Hello all, greetings from Austria.
I've been a goest reader for a bit, until I have a Cuore within my grasp, so its a 2002 Cuore 4 door Green and has A/C with 55k on the odometer. However the owner says it smokes white after about 10 minutes of use. So here are my questions, 1, if the car smokes, would this necessarily mean theres water infiltrating into the block? Would this require a rebuild of the lower portion of the motor, or just a new head gaskit and water pump? 2. If I was to get the Cuore and wanted to put in a new motor from a doner car with no A/C, what years would work? 1998-2002? and what about the A/C mountings and belts ect 3, could the white smoke also be caused by bad motor oil?(I'm praying this is the case)
Thanks for all your help now and in the future.

white smoke (steam) usually
white smoke (steam) usually does mean head gasket. You should not need to rebuild the bottom end.
Just inspect head for flatness and cracks, and replace gasket.
2002, It could be the DVVT engine version, if so you would need to get same. 1998-2001 is non DVVT
White smoke
Thanks a bunch, for the info. I still think I should buy it since it has virtually no miles 55K and the body and interior still look like new. The only bad thing is he wants €1,200. and wont budge on the price, so any ways...we will see in time. Thanks once again and will keep posting as things unfold.

New pics and Progress report
Howdy all, Here is a link to my photos and several VDO's of the fan and the car idling, plus some rust repair and prevention.... it seems an ongoing saga here is Austria, they use LOTS of salt so even if a car is less than 3 years old.... yep it has rust After changing the spark plugs the lill green guy is now fairly zippy and better gas milage, however it still uses oil and has the black puffs while shifting with high reves then it stops.... not sure whats going on, but the previous owner said it smokes white.... still no sign of white smoke. Nothing unusual in the radiator or holding tank. Just the black puffs coming out. Plus the squiekies from the right side was fixed, oddly enough it was just 3 loose nuts that were connected to the dash bar, so tightened down the nuts then added loctite to it and felt underneath and presto no more squiekies.
We will do another engine flush and continue to use full synthetic5/30, I just hope it slows down with the oil consumption.

Cuore Smoke help
One think I forgot to ask is, would it be difficult to change the headgasket by self and a friend
Is there any tricks or special technique that I may need to know, and is there a step by step process on the forum I could print out and use as a guide
We haven't purchased it yet, but it will be really soon now , but I wanted to get my ducks in a row first before I stat the resurrection process
many thanks Eds

They are so very easy to work
They are so very easy to work on them! Very simple and lots of space.
I have only just bought my L701 few weeks ago. Everything fine but It seems to have a annoying air noise coming from inside the throttle body at idle.
I cannot find any external vacuum air leaks and the idle speed is fine at 850rpm, so I'm not going to take things apart just yet!

smoking Cuore?
We went ahead and bought the Cuore, and as I mentioned the owner said it smoked but it has not smoked when driving or idling. I just topped off the fluids, filled up with gas and gave it a good wash, so now its nice and shiny green. Let's see if oil or water will get used... Idle is at around 900 which - actually all the Cuores we've looked at idled higher and more unevenly... However when the fan kicks in or when the A/C is on it feels and sounds like the space shuttle is taking off. When I checked the fan and hand turned it seems to wobble, and when running it really sucks the power especially at low revs. Is this a common problem with the L701?, I'm absolutely loving it and soon will do some rust proofing the underbody and fender wells, which leads me to another question, is there any tricks, hidden corners to pay attention when undercoating and rustproofing?

Yeah they all vibrate at
Yeah they all vibrate at idle.
Now, rust points.. Mine looks pretty good underneath so far, Except....If you pull the carpet up, on both sides along the sill seam there is a small area of rusty metal, same place each side.
Looks like it's a area that collects dampness/moisture. Or if window was left open and it rained then this area of carpet would get wet.
Some smoke Cuore
We got engine flush and ran it through then changed the oil to 5W30 synthetic, and boy o boy it was black and chunky, not to mention the air filter was completely black and gray. So now it seams there is a puff of smoke when taking off, we will see how the oil consumption will be. We will try one more engine flush after a few more kilometers and if it use slots of oil we will change it to 10W30. Still runs smooth but when the radiator fan kicks in it vibrates pretty bad and noisy. It still gives me giggles to drive around
