Altering speedometer output

Forum:

Having recently increased the overall wheel size on my Sportrak I am now having to put up with a false speed reading. Although the difference is quite small (5%) it still gets on my nerves particularly at higher speeds. I can see two ways to alter the output, those being a mechanical change at the input, or an electrical change at the output. Can somebody who has done this help me decide which direction to go in, or am I better fitting an aftermarket speedo?

Thank you very much,

Tully

Thank you for your suggestion

Thank you for your suggestion and yes, that would be the most straight forward option, however it leaves the speedo dial completely redundant and I would be interested to know if anybody had been able to alter the original. Thanks again

By law you have to be reading

By law you have to be reading within 10% of the speed the vehicle is doing, this tolerance is due to wear on the tyres which reduced their rolling radius.

If you want your speedo correcting you need a specialist such as Speedograph in Nottingham, they will regear the internals of the speedometer correctly.

OK thanks for the info. As

OK thanks for the info. As it's less than 5% (assuming it was perfectly accurate beforehand) I think it will have to be left, I'll try and do an accuracy reading with a satnav thought to make sure.
