Help with intermittent problem starting my sportrak

Forum:

I have recently bought a K reg Sportrak 'Limited edition' and have a intermittent problem when starting it.

It has been fitted with an alarm & a immobiliser although I thought at first it was the immobiliser I managed to bump start it (so it can't be that).

I think it could possibly be the Fuel pump??

Has anyone got any advice or experienced the same problems??

Most popular problem with them

This is a common problem with people and just getting Sportraks. The problem with mine and other peoples has almost always been the distributor cap and rotor arm as they have been ignored and are more knackered than the cast of the Last Of The Summer Wine, and thats saying something Laughing out loud.

So first thing I would do is check the dist cap. Then look at things that would cost more.

Give us a clue then

Does it actually turn over Unknw
If not it's not unknown for the starter motor solenoid to stick on the Sportrak. I speak from experience here, mine did it on the afternoon of the day I got it - fortunately it also did it on the dealer's forecourt whilst I was back there getting something else sorted Smiling

Dean & Tracy, I have been ha

Dean & Tracy,
I have been having starting problems with my Sportrak (see "Dead or Wot" in the problem forum, if you haven't already seen it).

I don't think that we have the same problem as mine won't bump start, if you think my experiences mirror your own then I suggest you watch my forum.

I am off to the main dealer tomorrow to see if they can solve the problem, I will update the forum with any new developments.

Sportrack either not starting or just cutting out

Dear Salty

So far it's had
New Rotor Arm
New Disty Cap
New Coil
Yesterday after having driving it all day, we broke down again (engine just cut out).

Getting a bit fed up with it now.

Any other solutions I can try???????????

Lets diagnose the problem together

I think the first thing to do is check for error codes on the ECU.

It is all well and good to replace the cheaper items and hope but better to actually diagnose the problem this is usually cheaper in the long run.

Did you replace the above items yourself or get someone to do it for you! Would you feel comfortable to check the error codes yourself and do you have a manual?

It definitely sounds like a different problem to mine, which I think has now been solved by replacing the water temperature sensor (error code 4). The cost of the new sensor was £20 from a motor factor, almost half the price quoted by the main dealer.

same wont start

Hi, sort of the same with mine, it rained a lot the last few days and it would just turn over and not fire, i doused everything with wd 40 and de scaled the contacts in the distributer cap and it fired no probs, used it all day, next day no start , i did notice that when i turned on the ignition the 2 indicator lights flashed twice, no start, played with the temp sensor, sprayed the coil ends and it started, but with NO indicator flashes this time ! can anyone shed light on this intermittent fault please Unknw its a K reg exi fitted with a Sigma M series alarm and immob.

Thanks
Rob

These get overlooked.

Change the distributor cap and rotor arm. Check and adjust the gap if it has contact breaker fitted.
Also fit new spark plugs. Needs a long reach spark plug wrench. Note the plug gap is 1 mm.

ok, thanks for the quick reply, but you think that is anything to do with the flashing " code " from the indicator arrows Unknw
