Hunt for manual hubs kit

Forum:

Hi guys, one of my automatic hubs on my sportrak has begun playing up where it doesn't unlock, when selecting two wheel drive and reversing. Will probaly take them off and give them a petrol clean and freshen up the grease etc thats packed in them.

However as its going to be used off road a fair bit i'm considering changing to AVM manual hubs kit 440#, however i'm strugling to find anyone in the UK that sells the kit which i assume cantains everything needed to change over, ie different nuts, lock washers etc. But struggling to find a uk supplier. contacted japanse 4x4 and they said they no longer do them for the sportrak. anybody know any decent suppliers as AVM dont sell directly.

Cheers

freewheeling hubs

Dunno where you might get manual hubs from. Sounds like a lot of work to get hold of them, meantime try this.
I think one of the problems with the auto hubs is that basically wheel bearing grease is miles too thick for the freewheeling hubs. I redid my auto hubs with ACL which is automatic chassis lube, its the thinnest grade of grease you can get . It's used for the pumped lube systems on trucks and is about the consistancy of wet non drip gloss paint, but it is a grease not an oil, so it stays where you put it.
Clean all the thick goop out, get a jamjar full of ACL from somewhere that services trucks and slap some of that in and I think you will have far less problems with your hubs , with minimal expense. Worth a try anyway
