Fourtrak Injector Pipes Keep Breaking

Forum:

Hi, I am hoping someone can shed some light on this problem. My '94 Fourtrak, with '97 engine, keeps breaking the injector pipe on number one cylinder. It breaks in the same place each time, just beyond the union on the diesel pump. This has now happened 4 times. When it happened last time I took it to a professional garage and they thought it might be to do with the injector itself so they swopped injectors 1 and 2 expecting the problem to move to number 2 cylinder. It hasn't because number 1 pipe has just broken again. Getting hold of more pipes is not a problem and fitting them is easy enough but I would realy like to solve the problem as I never know when it is going to go next.
Can anyone help?

so what breaks? anything

so what breaks? anything touching, shaking, vibrating? its metal pipe so the only thing that will break it is poor quality part or over pressurised fuel, cant really think of anything else, got any photos?

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

breaking pipes

It's got to be vibration . It used to be that pipes had clips to fix the pipes to one another to cut down vibration, you could get some from a diesel place surely. Everything has a resonant frequency depending on its weight / shape etc , could be that the fuel puklses at cruising speed are causing the pipe to fatigue crack, again damp out the vibration.

Injector pipes breaking

Most likely vibration . Check your idle speed - try adjusting up , even 100rpm will make a difference.

rmichie

I hate that when it happens to me

Dunno if this helps mate but I had a '94 Mk3 hilux in the workshop a few times(not my own)that did the same thing...

The guy had taken it to Toyota 4 times for repair.

I flared an injector pipe out of some steel line I had here for him with a Sykes Pickavant tool and fitted it.

Hes been back for repairs but not with the same problem.

As above, your line is shaking on something or its purely a case of shitty parts....

All the best.

What you need to do is add

What you need to do is add more of the clamps which go across all the pipes to hold them together as four, then where they are three, and where they are two, this will reduce the harmonics and alter them so it will reduce the pipes breaking.
