Fuel Gauge

Forum:

How far below the 'E' is the needle on the fuel gauge in a '91 Sportrak meant to go?
Help
We fill it up with fuel every time the needle reaches the 'E' and there is 10-15 litres left in it... (It has the gauge without the red line at 'E')

Daihatsu fuel gauges are very pessimistic near empty.

They have always been like this.

Shame there is no warning light.

Better than running out though!

One way to help judge the lowest point...where does the needle sit with ignition off?

Very Low

The needle sits quite a bit below the E with the ignition off, Ive never trusted it though so I just fill up when it reaches the E.

Gone now

I've got rid of my '91 and got myself a '97 with a fuel gauge that stays where it is when the ignition goes off. I just fill up when i reach the red line now

One of my favourite things

One of my favourite things about Sportraks is that the fuel needle remains in position when you turn off the ignition Smile unfortunately you therefore can't see how low it goes. I treat the red line as the warning light.

If you're really determined to see how low it goes, have a look on ebay for the dash unit, the pictures seem to show them on minimum. Searching 'Sportrak clocks' should suffice.

when you run it out of fuel,

when you run it out of fuel, you'll know the answer Biggrin

could just drain the tank then look at the gauge, doddle.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!
