fourtrak cambelt

Forum:

Hi
When I bought my fourtrak I was told the cambelt had been replaced, if it was to break will the valves and pistons come together ( BANG ) or will they clear each other.
Does this make sence to someone, if possibilty of a disaster engine wise I will get new belt fitted to be on the safe side.

Many thanks.

a new belt is about £25, that

a new belt is about £25, that should answer your question.

If it were to snap the cam

If it were to snap the cam would stop, any valves open or partially open would remain open, and the pistons would still be moving and crash, one new engine required.

The cam belt on these engines is extremely durable, but it requires changing every 60,000 miles religiously; many will claim to do well over 100,000 miles on a cambelt, but Daihatsu recommend changing them at 60,000 miles for a reason; reliability.
