Forum:
After fitting a new fuel pump my battery is no longer charging.
It took a while to get the fuel pump sorted and the car was sat on the drive for a while.
My first thought was the alternator but I was wondering if there were any other possible avenues to explore before I take on the hassle of replacing the alternator.
Before the fuel pump change the alternator was working fine so I'm wondering if there was anything like a fuse etc that I could of blown which prevents a charge getting from the alternator to the battery.
If it's any help the car is a Sportrak Elxi H reg.
Many thanks
Dave
Check the main power fuse,
Check the main power fuse, not sure where it is on yours but it is either a main fuse or housing with fusible link in.
Check the main power cable and its connections, check the earth cables and their connections also and check the alternator is exciting (the thin wire running to it) and ensure the end has not snapped off internally as many do through the wire corroding, and the insulation covers it so its not visible. Check the excitor wire actually has power going to it, pull it off and turn the ignition on and ensure its got 12 volts.
Many thanks
Thanks for the info.
I'll try all you mentioned at the weekend, hopefully that should nail it.
