Forum:
Ah well, my Missus has been a YRV premium 1.3 51 plate over 100k on the clock (80k on the clock in 2007) - only 20k miles in 5 years), owner since 2007 and I don't know how she has managed to continue driving it with the problems with the car.
I do believe she bought the car in a knackered state - it had been thrashed i think.
Firstly, the passenger side window.
The window control switch is busted, it moves and it can be toggled, it doesn't really activate the switch mechanism or connection underneath properly. but goes a bit mad, most of the time toggling it does nothing, and then all of a sudden the window will come down automatically and will not go up again. Initially we were able to play with the switch to get the window up, and now it no longer does this, so have to leave the window closed and the control switch locked from the drivers side. This has resulted in some very HOT summers on the passenger side.
Secondly, to add insult to injury, the AC cannot be used, as after a short while the passenger side foot well gets covered with water! Being a passenger in Summer is HELL!
Thirdly, the Glove Compartment decided to shut and not open again, as the toggle handle broke, no amount of probing and playing with it or using any tools was able to open the Glove - eventually it had to be forced open by breaking the hinge(s). So now no Glove Compartment cover.
Fourthly, The suspension is buggered, going over a road hump or pot hole is like commandeering a Jeep through the Karakoram, jars every bone in ones body.
Fifthly, the exhaust, makes a sound like a vibrating rattling giant bee shoved up the exhaust pipe - Apparently there's a build up of carbon and the whole unit needs replacing.
Sixthly, a major problem occurred last week. During the snow spell the battery went flat over night and it was replaced with a brand new one the following day.
Four days later suddenly the radio/Cassette decided to play tricks, and the radio just stayed ON. Usually, it can be powered off by a small button on the facia. And Usually, turning the car off, and removing the key from the ignition switches the Radio off regardless whether the power button has been pressed or not.
BUT for some bizarre reason the Radio could NOT be turned off. the power button did nothing, removing the Key from the ignition did Nothing - it stayed ON!
My missus then removed the facia it turned OFF. Phew she thought. Forward to the following morning, about to leave for work - Battery FLAT!
later that day, after work, the car was easily jump started and battery seemed to have been charged, as turning the car off then starting it wasn't a problem. the following morning, Disaster struck again! the battery is flat!
Now I think this could be an electrical fault with the Car, or the Radio - perhaps the radio, even with the facia removed still drains the battery? And my suspicion points to the fact that removing the ignition key doesn't switch the radio off anymore (whereas removing the facia seemingly does).
I thought I'd deactivate the radio/cassette by removing the Fuse - but we could not find the fuse box! looked everywhere and simply cannot locate it!!
Then tried removing the stereo but to no avail as have misplaced the Clarion AX413R removal keys!
We need some help/Advice. My missus has had enough and wants to scrap the car in frustration - I have urged her not to, but to give it some TLC and sort these problems.
the Suspension and Exhaust could possibly be replaced or maintained by any Car Mechanic Garage, so I wont be asking about these.
I am however asking about the other problems.
WHERE could we locate (and how much) for a passenger side door window switch unit?
Where could we locate and buy a glove compartment lid?
And the Radio/Battery problem? Any ideas as to what the problem could be?
Where exactly is the Fuse Box? (there is another type of one in the engine bay but it's the internal one we can't locate)
And the AC? Any ideas as to what the problem is?
Would it be worth selling the car or should it be simply scrapped?
it still has a years MOT and Tax!
I do believe she bought the car in a knackered state - it had been thrashed I think, as the suspension was in this state when she bought it.
I do like YRV's, and I put these problems down to bad luck and not typical of the brand and model - correct me if I'm wrong.
Any help? Advice?
Thanks!
With all those problems I
With all those problems I would not bother with it, Would cost you 2 or 3 times more than the car is worth to solve them all.
You can however find very nice ones for around £1000. So if you like YRV's then just buy another
All fair and true, but at
All fair and true, but at least I'd like to get the window switch and glove sorted out.
Could at least flog the car then.
Plus if anyone can point me towards where the internal fusebox is located?
