Landrover with Daihatsu DL50 Motor - leaking Fuel

Forum:

I recently purchased and imported Diesel Series III Landrover in the US. The engine is a Daihatsu DL50. We never got these vehicles in the US so knowledge and parts are very limited. I really like the motor but am having one major difficulty. Fuel keeps leaking out of any weak spot. When I purchased it the fuel filter which was an aftermarket one had worn through the bottom and had a pin hole leak. When I fixed it the leak moved to the injector pump seals around the accelerator cable and adjustment screws (as noted on other forum entries). I am starting to suspect that the pressure is too high. When the pervious owner converted to the diesel he added an electric lift pump that is a 5-5.8PSI pump down near the tank. The filter housing has a return line sized the same as the feed line. Looking at the manual it appears as though this truck did not have a lift pump? The filter was hand primed and then the injector pump did the work? Is this the case? Should I reduce the pressure of the lift pump or get rid of it and go back to the stock system? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

you've answered your own

you've answered your own question, most diesal pumps work under there own suction, the original filter housing has owv in it (one way valve)

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

As below, the suction is in

As below, the suction is in the first stage of these Bosch pumps, remove the other pump as they only draw slightly more than they need and use the surplus to lubricate the injectors and it returns back to the injector pump, then back to tank.
