Forum:
I own a '88 f77 diesel Rocky that died ..... (may live again......)
overheated and vented oil and coolant onto road.....verry sad
I found a coolant line ruptured and I'm hoping that
a blown oil cooler may be the only leak site.
The coolant line was also blocked with scale/crud so probably the cause,
but that is an easy fix.
But where the oil gets out???
Has anyone had a oil cooler fail and leak oil out the water line?
Thanks for any help

Replaced the oil heat
Replaced the oil heat exchanger(was blown so water and oil both vented out ruptured coolant line) and cleaned out the whole coolant system(much crud and "scale" removed)
reassembled and filled oil and coolant....
coolant is oil free and engine oil is water free,
But still no go...
suspect head gasket???
turns over fine,maybe too easily?
compression??
with maybe a slight "whuff" (not sure)
but won't fire..
I can't see any engine oil leakage around head...
could there be a relief valve/plug somewhere to check?
could something else have been damaged by the heat?
or is it off to the Mech for compression test?
please help if you can

How do diesals
How do diesals ignite?.....compression....so if it turns over easily then theres a good chance the compression has gone, try a whiff of easy start just to see if you get anything?
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

I took the tappet cover off
I took the tappet cover off and turned engine over .....
no movement from pushrods so I'm now hoping that the heat just caused the timing belt to fail, ie no turning from camshaft etc
hopefully there won't be any/too much damage.....
(I suspect the belt may not have been replaced at 100k by previous owners)
Just struggling to remove the crankshaft pulley....
got the bolt with some grunting but now I need a pulley puller plate
have drillpress will fab...
a job for tomorrow me thinks
I'll post what I find
thanks for the input
