Buying TDX soon

Forum:

Newbie general questions:::
1) What weight can the TDX tow (Im looking to tow about 1700kgs)the info on this site just says 3500kg towing weight is that the combined weight of it and caravan........
2)why cant i put smileys on this comment?

3.5 Tonn is what the tow poin

3.5 Tonn is what the tow point is rated too. The law in this country (as far as I'm aware) is that a 4x4 can tow up to 1.5 times it's own unladen waight. The unladen waight of your car should be printed on the vin plate (where you find the chassis number. I think the unladen waight is a little under 2 Tonn for an indipendent LWB.

Having said that, if you want to risk the random whaigh-bridge pull in police, an independent is quite capable of hapilly pull 3.5.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

legalities

what it`ll tow across a car field aint what it`s allowed to tow on the public road, which is not allowed to be any more than the kerb weight of the car - so thats around 1700 kg if my memory serves - but the caravan club recommend no more than 85% of the cars weight so this knocks it down more- for your info i pull a heavy (1600kg) german caravan and reckon i just about get away with it though stability is a bit suspect at speeds above 65 so watch your speed and you should be ok

3.5 tow weight

Hi Guys thanks for the above comments.
I thought the law was that you could tow upto your own vehicle weight(but recommended that learner towing was only taken upto 85% of vehicle weight) In the light of the comment of 1.5 times weight I have e/mailed a towbar company requesting a definitive answer,will comment further if and when they reply.................... Cheers guys
