hi there, i have a 1990 sporty im trying to get back on the road (so i can take it off again lol) BUT the engine is making big noise when its reved, it starts first turn of the key, with no noise at all, its only when you rev it does it make an ungodly noise like somethings loose? i've checked the pulleys and their all doing what they should, im now officialy stumped :(...can anyone offer advice?

how long has it been off the road? it may need a good oil change and flush. it the noise top end or bottom? to me it sounds like oil is not getting through to all parts of the engine properly. oil can go funny if left un used for a while goes a bit gunky in areas, you may need to use two cans of engine flush. hope this helps if not i'll find out more about a kerosene flush. W

hi there woadwarrior, its been off the road for around 4 years, the noise sounds like its top end, i have the rocker cover off and everything "looks" right, however the oil does smell odd, could it be a valve or a tappett off? I will try the engine flush and oil change tomorow but im concerned about running the engine with all that noise (supose i'll have to, to get the flush through) thanks for your help, i'll post the results of "operation oil change"

i tryed the flush and oil change woadwarrior sugested and it seemes to have done the trick...the noise i described has gone...wahey!!...however, its been replaced with another,i think its the alternater but not sure, also i cant get the front brakes to bleed, does anyone know why? thanks a bunch for all your sugestions

If it sounds like a cat been neutered without anesectic its only the fan belt slipping just needs adjusting.

hi alfie, as it happens the cat is dead, very dead, it rattles like a dead rattley thing, the noise is more a dull metalic sound, like if you tap a rocker cover with a socket (only faster)
Have you checked the bearing
Have you checked the bearing on the power steering idler pulley? I had similar problem and it was this pulley.£10 from Graham Dewhurst.
Noise
Check the cover on the rear of your altenator, can make a fair noise if its loose.
