alternater bekt

hi, could anyone tell me the right alternater belt to buy? i have one of those daft cd rom manuals and it tells me nowt, the belt thats on has to be wrong as the alternater is at full adjustment and the belt is still very slack, so much so, my battery aint charging, any info would be greatly recieved...scoobie...

Can't remember the exact part number for the belt but I've just replaced mine and there are two different ones (if you're talking about Sportraks, don't know avout Fourtraks)

One has teeth and is rather flat looking while the other is a "V" belt. (V shaped as opposed to [_] shaped in cross section

Got mine from Halfords but any good autofactor should be able to supply you with one.

Just make sure it's the right type as the pulley wheels are different and they're not interchangeable.

Always found Birmingham 4x4 spares (in the links page) a great help.

You may pay a quid or so more, but they know what they are talking about, so you get the correct stuff.

Alternator belts

I needed to replace the alternator and PAS belt on my Sportrak recently, halfords did both, but the code on their computer for one of them was wrong and was way to small. I tried Birmingham 4x4 Spares, and they sent the right belt. Although it was the right one, it did cost more than halfords (and thats saying something), plus they charged an arm and a leg for postage (about £2, and it came in a bit of bubble wrap with a 1st class stamp on it!!)

All in all it cost about £8 for the belt with postage! My fault for not checking the P&P cost i suppose, but not best pleased with them.

There's a foulup in the UK parts for 4trak independents

Been caught with that problem on my 1997 independent.

I've just nipped out to the vehicle and reading the numbers on the QH wrappers from the belts that fit.

Alternator QBC1113
Steering pump QBB800

I'm pretty sure the numbers are the length in millimetres.
QB is for Quinton Hazell Belt
C is for 'C' section which is wide
B is for 'B' section which is narrower
A is for 'A' section skinny belts which were fitted to British Leyland rubbish.

Why doesn't the website like 'white space' Unknw GRRRRR
