Sirion suspension upgrades

Forum:

Hello!

Literally just today I bought myself a 2002 Sirion and couldn't be happier (first car finally)

I'm wondering how people on this forum are getting parts from overseas or what parts are good to get hold of here in the UK. I'm a pretty heavy guy (110kg 6"3' haha) and the rear springs felt very soft so I'd like to make them a bit stiffer and would also like to get my hands on the front strut brace.

Any help is hugely appreciated.

Sam

Hi Sam

I'm new here myself. I have noticed that demon tweeks have a spax kit when I've looked.

I have a Rally 4 so 4wd so this may not be the kit for your car, or it may be just fine. Not very helpful. I have noticed a few on ebay but they are not for 4wd. As I understand it the rear springs on the 4wd cars are different from the normal 2wd cars.

This is the kit I've found:

Hey man,

Hey man,

I've actually found the best bet is probably getting them custom made. The Spax have decent reviews if you don't wanna spend basically double the price but the guys over at CoilSprings in Sheffield I think can make springs to any spec you want ie. stiffness, ride height etc. Also you should check out the Daihatsu Performance Enthusiasts page on Facebook, it's a bit more active than here!

Hi Sam, I am on the facebook group but I don't check facebook much. This does seem to be a bit of a dead forum now

Rallye 2 springs

The Rallye springs are already stiffer than the standard ones and about an inch lower (shorter). I had a full set of springs made for mine by the people who made them for Daihatsu UK. Mine were made another 30% stiffer, and they were £210, but that was a while ago. Their email address is eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%63%6f%69%6c%73%70%72%69%6e%67%73%40%73%61%74%75%72%6e%77%6f%72%6b%73%2e%66%73%6e%65%74%2e%63%6f%2e%75%6b%22%3e%63%6f%69%6c%73%70%72%69%6e%67%73%40%73%61%74%75%72%6e%77%6f%72%6b%73%2e%66%73%6e%65%74%2e%63%6f%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')), or eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%6d%65%6d%62%65%72%40%73%61%74%75%72%6e%77%6f%72%6b%73%2e%66%73%6e%65%74%2e%63%6f%2e%75%6b%22%3e%6d%65%6d%62%65%72%40%73%61%74%75%72%6e%77%6f%72%6b%73%2e%66%73%6e%65%74%2e%63%6f%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')). The guy I dealt with was Brian Bennett. If you use them, just make sure you specify that you want them shorter/lowered, because mine came at standard Sirion ride height and it was too late to get altered because I needed the car for work.
Good luck.
Just make sure you silicone grease the front caliper slider pins an change the oil regularly and all should be well. Mind's still pulling strong at 146,000 miles and averaging 48mpg!

Don't understand what

Don't understand what happened with the email address! I'll try and send it as a private message.

Soggy rear end!

I had to get new rear shocks when I first bought mine because it wallowed a bit at the back. I only got the new springs because both front ones cracked.
