sporty engine

Forum:

The head gasket has gone in my sporty had loads of problems with the engine, but still love the car so I want to put a different engine in it. I would prefer a diesel engine (fuel consumption is attrocious) Does anyone know of any diesel engine that will fit into the sportrak with out having to do anything radical, or of any good petrol engines that will fit.

Many years ago when I had a sporti I thought about deiaseling it. I never tried it as I noticed that at 4500 rpm (on the guvners for most deisles) in 5th she was only doing about 65mph.
You'de need to seriously improve the gearing to try this. And no 4trak diffs don't fit, as for some unfathomable reasion Daihatsu decided to make the Sporti with banjo diffs, instead of Sailsbury types.

do you know of any petrol engines that will fit in it the 1600 isn't very economical - a 2 litre would probably be better suited and there should be plenty of room in the engine bay

Not off the top of my head.

Not off the top of my head. However if you want to go silly you could always try replacing the Sporti transfur box with a Suzuki one. These are remote (IE not part of the gearbox, and only conected by a prop shaft). By doing this you can fit any rear wheel rive engine and gearbox that will fit in the space left.
