fourtrak T.D - glow plug problems

Forum:

hi
im new to the site and have recently brought a fourtrak 2.8 TD
which is on an 'E' reg plate,

the problem is
i have recnetly had the battery go flat while working on getting it ready for the mot,

i charged the battery up last night,
whiule it was still on the vehicle,
when i turn the ignition on
the glow plug light on the dashboard does not illuminate,
and i cannot hear the clicking thats us=ually heard for the relay,

i have checked the fuses found under the dash board - drivers side
and all seem fine,

where do i go from here,

please bear in mind i will need locations of any relevent relays etc as i have no manual as yet

thanks - steve

thanks for the docs,
im off out to try and sort this problem shortly,
and hopefully finish a few other modifications while im out working on her

i have taken a quick look through the spring over conversion and think this may warrant some investigations,

i did an 8" lift on a hi-lux some years ago,
but im at a loss regarding the fourtrack as yet,
i aint really got down and dirty with her yet,
so im not fully aquainted - soon will be though

thanks for the sterling advic

thanks for the sterling advice folks,
problem solved

wire had become disconnected,
believed to be from a previous alarm install,

re-connected and she fired straight up,
with glow-plugs working as they should,

thanks again - steve

Does anything else power up,

Does anything else power up, will it crank over? You may have blown the main fusible link, which is the wire between battery and the black plastic box close by.

the fuse sounds most feasable

the fuse sounds most feasable,
everything else works 100% and although the fourtrak was brought for not much cash and without an mot,
shes in fine fettle
and all electrics were fine,
always starting first show of the key too,

failed mot - on stupidness really,
with the only main issues being a broken rear leaf spring
and theres play in the tie-bar between the front axle and the chassis,

apart from that its nearly there now,

heres afew pics of her as a work in progress,
i have fitted quite a sound system into it
re-trimmed the whole of the interior,
mirror-silver window film,
theres now the obligatory 4 spotlights above the roof,
also fitted the genuine dog-guard (gotta keep my rottie at bay)

looking for sidesteps and rearlight guards too finish,
before i re-spray the lower (silver)
to freshen the whole thing up on the outside

i can look into a lift-kit then replace the wheels
then its play-time

Ok, the tie bar you speak of,

Ok, the tie bar you speak of, called a Panhard Rod over here. I assume yours is a leaf sprung front end. Check the validity of removing this bar completely. Its not needed on a leaf sprung vehicle. If it was, why doesnt the rear have one? Besides, if you are contemplating a suspension lift, you will have to remove it, because it will pull the drivers side down with this type of lift, unless you buy an adjustable one.
