Where can I get decent tyres from for the Sportrak?

Forum:

Ok, so I have ancient Goodyear Eagle GA's fitted in 225 70R 15, but they are only fit for boat fenders.

I want to fit At's in the same size but when i search the isial websites, nothing, but nothing decent comes up in that size. Not a hint of BFG At's or even Colway AT's so where the heck are they? Do I have to try another size and if so what?

Ta...

bronco

go for bronco's got the rough riders on ma fourtrak never got stuck yet good fast delivery. but watch out for geting them fitted at a tyre centre as they might try and rip you off for fitting them. as they didnt supply them

Tyres

I just bought some BFG AT on-line from Blackcircles.com. They were helpful and arranged a local fitting for an inclusive price. They will also supply direct for you to arrange your own fitting. If you email them with a query giving your rim details and planned usage I am sure they will get back to you with a range of tyres at acceptable sizes and prices. They did for me.

Round Things

Moonrock, what sizes did they get you then? The closest i have seen Big Friendly Giants come in is 215 75R 15.

The Bronco's look ok, but I need predominantly road tyres with good fairly good off road manners so a 50/50 tyre would be right up my alley. Not literally though I hope...

Have you got your tyres yet. If not try mytyres.co.uk
after many hours of searching this seems a really good site
I just purchased some dunlop AT-2s 225/70/R15 for @ 45.00 squid each each. Also plenty more to choose from.

Just looked at them and they

Just looked at them and they look a bit road biased for what I want. Good value though!
Has anyone any opinions on General Grabber AT2s???? They are up for £59 incl p+p and look like BFG ATs.

Try these guys...

Give tyresdirect.uk.com a try.
I got a set of 5 Colway ATs from them (although in 235/75 R15)

The Colway ATs are a retread with a close copy of BFG's AT tread pattern and excellent tyres in my opinion.

I have one of their flyers which shows 225/70 R15's available at
£37.00 each, the flyer was sent with the tyres in Dec last year so
prices may still be current.

How would you compare the MT

How would you compare the MT tyres to ATs on road? I have heard that the ATs are good enough off road, but is there a huge difference?

MT or AT

Hi mate I can honestly say that I dont have problems on or off road with my MTs It depends on what your priorities are . If you go off road regularly ,go for MTs but if you go occaisionally but drive more on road then ATs are more suitable .Two of my mates have Discoverys one with ATs and one with Mts the one with ATs says he cant get enough grip offroad and the one with MTs says he rarly gets into a situation offroad that he cant get out of by himself this is also my experience of the MTs the only thing which some may find obtrusive is rumble from road noise but again this depends what you use your car for I wouldnt use my sporty on the motorway for this reason( but I am lucky to have another car) round town I dont have a problem .

Hope this helps

Ok, my main car is a Mazda MX

Ok, my main car is a Mazda MX5 which I drive as god intended, and needless to say I don't hang around to admire the scenery. My other car is a bike, which I also don't spare the horses. So, you can dsee a pattern forming here...

I don't like hanging around, and was pleasantly suprised by the nippines of the Sporty, especially compared to a Vitara, and the fairly flat cornering. At the mo' I have Eagle GA roady tyres fitted, which are adequate. Nothing like the grip of the MX5 but I wouldn't expect it as it is a totally different kettle of fish. I use the Sporty for lugging things around and is mainly on long fast A roads. How would the MTs cope realistically on twisty A roads at a reasonable speed? I do drive the Sporty slower, don't get me wrong, but with MTs would I have to REALLY slow down in the bends and what of braking?

Ta!

MTs cornering ability

If you dont intend to go offroad much go for the AT especially if you want to corner faster but I wouldnt recomend driving a sporty too fast cos it isnt supposed to be used like that and if you put offroad tyres on it aswell you nedd to be careful.

That's the point though, I do

That's the point though, I do want to go off road with it and my mates are too pikey to cough up for a 4x4 to follow me should i get stuck, and my mum told me not to go off in the woods with strangers, so MTs seem the best thing for this!

I don't really want to corner fast in the Sporty, but don't want that feeling of tiptoeing either if you get my drift. Are they really that bad on road?

SPORTY TYRES

No MTs arent bad for grip but you need to take it easy ,but you shouldnt go offroad on your own anyway ,so listen to your mum !! LOL If you get stuck or break down and have to leave your sporty, you may come back to find loads of bits missing also if you have an accident you will have nobody to give you kiss of live (thats why I always go offroading with the Swedish beach volley ball team!! LOL)

tyres

I have fitted Suzuki GV 2000 rims, £5 each from a dealer ( they take them off to fit alloys ) and 205x16 tyres, mine are Avon rangemasters, but you can get a good range of cheaper tyre new or s/h as they are a common size ( L/R etc ). No clearance probs and no spacers used.
