Fitting a Radio !! it wont go in !!

Forum:

Ive just bought a 1997 HiJet MPV ,there is no radio in it so I went out and bought one ,but , It wont fit in the hole were the original must have been !!
The "hole" is only 4 inches from front to back and "modern" radios are 6 1/2 inches.
So were to put the radio ?? any ideas please Unknw

Hijet Radio

I've also just bought a 97 HiJet MPV. The radio on mine is mounted in the glove compartment. Bit weird I thought but if the hijet has a small radio compartment that would make sense. Also being in the glove compartment shields some of the cassette motor noise, and is handy for security (it looks like I don't have a radio!)

Radio

Hi Mike
Have a 2000 Hijet van and likewise have radio in glovebox. I support your comment on security etc.

HI-JET RADIO

ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT IS A PLASTIC CONSOLE FIXED CENTRALLY ON THE FLOOR.
THE RADIO IS MOUNTED VERTICALLY IN THE TOP. I HAVE MADE AN MDF CONSOLE FOR MINE, SINCE IT LACKED THE BLACK PLASTIC CONSOLE, BUT THERE IS A FURTHER PROBLEM SINCE MINE HAS NO WIRING LOOM FOR THE RADIO EITHER. A MAIN AGENT MIGHT BE DELIGHTED TO OBTAIN THESE BITS FOR YOU, (I READ SOMEWHERE THAT THE CONSOLE WAS ABOUT £200, BUT I CAN'T VOUCH FOR THIS), AND IF YOU ARE NOT COMPETENT TO WIRE IT YOURSELF IT'S PROBABLY BEST TO FIND A SMALL, FAIRLY OLD AUTO-ELECTRICIAN WHO KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. LARGE CAR ACCESSORY CHAINS TEND TO FIT STANDARD STUFF, BUT DON'T ALWAYS KNOW HOW IT WORKS. THE HIJET IS A SUPER VEHICLE WITH NO EFFECTIVE TECHNICAL BACKUP, UNLESS YOU'RE A MILLIONAIRE. GOOD LUCK!

Radio consul

You can get a consol that fits in line with the gear stick,it is around £80 from dihatsu dealer.Your speakers are fitted in the door panel where there is a space fore them so take the panel off first as they can only go in one place.I have a cd player which i wired stright to the battery with a fuse line in and the negative to the body works a treat, hope thus helps.
