Fitting a turbo to a petrol Rocky (Feroza/Sporttrak)

Forum:

Alright, I've read several people on here have wanted to put a turbo on a petrol 1.6L. I've researched it and I am going to do it. I found a small garrett turbo with an A/R ratio around .5. I think this turbo will work out well for the type of driving I want to do. I'm also going to try and use the stock exhaust and intake manifolds. I'm just starting, so I'll keep updating this as I go along. If anyone has any comments or concerns, feel free to let me know. Wish me luck.

Turbo

Hi Harralk,

I take it you've seen the info about Turbo-ing on the outerlimits4x4
board? They warn about transmission damage if you cane it with the extra horses. Should be a good mod if you can get it set up.
Good luck mating up the turbo with the inlet manifold. You might want to consider ditching the crappy stock exhaust manifold though, it's a poor design and quite restrictive. A high flow one would be much better for gas transit and would yeild a better gain with the turbo.
Also if your head gasket is quite old you might want to get the head off and renew it if your going for forced induction, just to be on the safe side.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Jon.
