i jump started my 85 fourtrak 2.8td and and the glow plug solenoid has started clicking every second for about three minutes.it still starts.antbody else had this?

That's normal. It's to help get the engine up to running temp more quickly (especially on winter mornings).
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

sounds like your battery is duff and is struggling to recharge hence the relay cycling on and off
