I was looking at the few parts available on ebay for the Extol and found a Cam chain kit. I had assumed the engine was much the same as that in the Hi-Jet but looking beneath the front seats access to any cam cover is all but impossible. Can anyone confirm which these have, belt or chain.
Readers will know that my Hi-jet went to the breakers after recently snapping its cambelt. The paintwork was not the best and had flaked but the bodywork had just surface rust and no severe corrosion or holes. It was a V reg 2000 model, cheap road tax and a good little van until the 3 year old cam belt failed.

I replaced the cambelt on my 1.3i Van 3 years ago and it has covered about 12000 miles without problem. The original cambelt was that put on by Daihatsu when the van was built and had covered 68000 miles over 9 years. Because of its age I replaced it with an OE belt marked MAK Japan Powerbelt. The van has been running like a dream but yesterday all power was suddenly lost. After a tow home I checked for a spark, nothing, so I removed the Distributor cover and turning the engine found that the distributor remained static.
hi all , i have a red hi jet, fitted with a "tipmaster" electro hydraulic tipping system fitted from new, this was supplied to sussex county council and used in their nparks dept, so most work it had done was bark and soil and such ,lol i bought it as a second owner some 7 years ago (its R reg)with about 30k on the clock , now got nnear 50k.

After loads of messing finally sorted overheating on 97 Hi Jet 1.0. A partly blocked rad was the problem. Paid £35 replacement from a local Hijet breakers. An they fitted it. Runs perfect. Contact me if anyone wants any info because I've been through everything.
