Knight in oily overalls needed in North East of England!

Forum:

It's me again Help

I'm looking for a FourTrak to tow horsey about with and am wondering if there is anyone in the North East (I'm in North Tyneside) who knows about the oily underneath-y bits that would be prepared to have a look at a FourTrak with me when I find one to make sure I don't buy a shed. There's a large drink in it!

I'm wanting something in good nick around the L or M mark and have £2500 ish to spend - what are my chances do you think?

Fourtrak - 4wd\2wd confusion!!

Forum:

Please forgive my complete cluelessness about this.

I'm looking at the possibilities of buying a tow-car to pull a horse trailer. My old riding instructor has a fourtrak and swears by it.

I'm a bit confused about the 4wd 2wd thing. When you're just driving along the road - is it 2wd? is that why the mpg seems to be better than LRs?

if you hit a muddy or slippy bit does it switch itself to 4wd or do you have to intervene?

Question about cam belt replacement

Forum:

Hey all.

Well, the Feroza/Sportrak looks beautifully easy to work on just flicking through the service manual.

Anyway, bout to take delivery of my '97 model and the first move is to replace the cam belt for piece of mind. The job looks pretty straight forward (ive only ever done chains before), I do have one question however...

It is always mentioned to rotate the crank to TDC on the compression stroke and ensuring the markings are aligned appropriately before doing the actual replacement - is this a piece of mind thing so you can be sure the pulleys dont move? Cuz it seems to me that a quick off/on with a timing belt could be done with the motor at any position and providing the pulleys didnt jump there should be no problem?

The right choice

Forum:

I am thinking about buying a fourtrak to use as a tow vehicle and work van i'll be towing a lada niva on a trailer total weight 2000kg.
is there anything i should look out for? what sort of price? i'm looking at a 98 fieldman, 80,000 miles £5000 no vat is this reasonable or can anyone make any other suggestions.
