I need to replace the battery in my hijet and currently have type 048 AH 40 Sae 325 Global and yuasa battery.
It seems very small for the battery compartment and I was wondering what the biggest battery was which I could fit as the current one seems to be a little weak under load (ie starting) even when it was new....any advice appreciated....
Our poor blue 'bug' is close to its last days.
We brought our Hijet 2yrs ago and were so pleased with our find, 7 seats, small engine perfect for our family needs.
On our first big family outing the head gasket went left us stranded 100miles from home with 4 not so happy kids. Thanks to a brilliant AA man our beloved Hijet was fixed for a tidy sum of £300.
So as time has gone on and our trust slowly building, little bit have broken we are now down to only the passenger side front window working plus sunroofs, only 1 of the side doors opens and at this moment in time the poor Hijet is stranded 4miles from home with a hole in its petrol tank :'(.
Does anyone know where on the Hijet the paint code can be located? I have a 1996 Hijet SE MPV, it's metallic blue and I need some touch up paint for paint chips. I've searched high and low and am baffled. Most things on the Hijet seem to be in a weird place so I expect this is no exception. Endearing but sometimes frustrating.
Hi all, I used to own a 850cc G reg Daihatsu Hijet - petrol, it was a cheap, ecconomic, workhorse and dear companion until I had to scrap it due to loosing the battle with the dreaded rot.
I now have recently purchased a 1300cc, petrol, EFI Hijet van 2000 X reg - and am finding to my horror that there seems to be more than a few problems with this model, for example, obtaining spares, overheating, etc.
Does anyone have any information on possible wheel replacements for a HiJet. I'd like to put something a little larger and wider on, but am not sure of the offset and PCD.
Has anyone replaced the wheels or know what size can be put on?

Does anyone one know were I can obtsin a new body panel for my 4trk looking for the small panel that goes behind front bumper can make one but thought if I could find a supplier it would be easier. Looked for veng or melbros body panels but they don't seem to exist anymore.
