Hi
I have got my place on the Mongol Rally 2008 starting in July, the vehicle that we use is a 1998 R reg Hijet 1.0L EFI Panel Van.
The van is broke at the moment with all the classic problem of overheating , boiled the engine will not start. Andy my team mate a builder and myself an Electrician will get it going over the coming months and stay going over the trip.
Has anyone had any joy in getting a refund from HiJet for a failed prop shaft bearing following the recent safety recall? I gather it is a common problem and certainly mine (an '01 1300 EFI) needed replacing about 2 months ago. Of course, to save money, I thought I'd do it my self, so I expect D will use this an excuse to NOT refund the (loopy) £120 it cost from the dealer.
I went into my local dealers yesterday, the hijet parts microfice is now available to dealers as a PDF (Acrobat) file - unfortunatly I could not persuade him to copy it for me - Anybody got a really friendly dealer???
I have used the M6Toll Road for the first time in my Hijet and I got charged what they call the van rate (Night time £7 instead of £3 for cars) My hijet is an MPV so I protested some it has glass and seats - its a car - "It doesn't work like that" it depends on the hight of the vehicle directly above the front axle - not on if its a commercial a van or whatever. see http://www.m6toll.co.uk/pricing/vehicleclass.asp
Hey, did anyone see the Daihatsu Hijet in Live Free or Die Hard? It made it's appearance when John Maclean and Mike Farrell arrived at the power station.
I was quite surprised to see it considering the rarity of Daihatsu's in general in North America.
If your thinking of converting a hijet into a camper, and need help with designs and where to buy the right materials for the cheapest price from inner panels to laminates to fishing rods then let me know......

After weeks or fixing this hijet i have desided to sell her now, which my mate thinks am mad for doing after the work that went in getting her started, but,
as i have 2 vans i have desided to sell them both in the next week or so....
Hi folks. Newbie to this site & Daihatsus. Have just bought (maybe foolishly!) a 1998 Hijet 1200 diesel van. Seems ok so far except for the brakes. I suspect the servo needs a rebuild, has anyone got any advice on this, eg repair kit or exchange unit? Also what's the current situation on workshop manuals? Any info would be useful thanks.
Is the engine fitted in the Suzuki carry van , the same as that fitted in the Hi-jet van? and are other parts of use? I can get hold of a Suzuki carry van 1.3 efi year 1999 cheap, Thanks for any info Dave.
