GALLERY CHANGES

Forum:

The photo gallery has been warming up quite nicely of late - Many thanks to all of you who have taken the time and trouble to send your photos in to us. It's become a victim of it's own success so, in view of this, we've decided to make a few changes, and I have now added some new albums dedicated to individual models..So, in future you can go direct to the type of vehicle you wish to view, and not have to wade through a mish-mash of various types.
So, in short, there are now 4 albums (initially) - For the F300 (Sporty/Feroza Derivatives) The Fourtrak/Rocky, Cars/commercials, and finally, something that is proving popular on other car sites which is a page for pics of modifications/work you are doing, or some some pics of a repair you've carrying out. This is particularly useful to others when youve done something like a HG or Cambelt swap so others know what to expect when they've started to strip stuff down.

Head Gasket Engine Issues

Forum:

Gents,

I have run the old fourtrak up to until she's hot, held here around 2800rpm and monitiored bubbles (some large, most small and foamey) forming in the expansion tank.

To me that say's the head gasket is leaking!!!! Does anyone have the CD manual for replacing these? I could do with buying one, or having a kind individual E-mial me the relevent sections.

Would the coolant leaking into the cylinder cause a very slight stumble when driving?

Cheers

Mystery Daihatsu's

Forum:

I've just put a couple of pics up in the gallery of a couple of Daihatsu's I saw on hols in the Greek Islands, which got me curious, and was hoping that one of our overseas contributors can shed some light on these.
First up is a forward-control pick-up truck, badged as a DELTA. I was unaware that they were actually in the LCV market. I guess there must have been panel van and other derivatives of this..... Do they still have a presence in this sector? How long was this in production?

Next up was the gold-coloured 4-door saloon which I almost walked straight by, dismissing it as a well kept up 70's Toyota Corolla - until I saw the badge.

sportrak noob

Forum:

hi,

Ive just bought an old '90 sportrak on the cheap. It a bit rusty and has sat for about a year, so coughs and splutters when it eventually starts. Im a bit taken with the car and fancy doing some work on it to get it into shape. Its got 65k on the clock and is a bit corroded underneath although theres a lot of surface rust there. I will do the standard, mot, oil, filter, plugs first. has anybody got any hints or tips on things to look for with this age and condition of sportrak. Im a bit concerned about the gearbox as Ive heard they can implode if not properly serviced. I dont have a service manual so any advice on offer would be appreciated. Like any parts that need replaced at this milage...I hear the timing belt need replaced about 60k miles...true?

Engine Issues

Forum:

I have a 1990 H 2.8 TD.

I'm not too sure whats wrong. She is using water but not loads, over a week I can expect to use around 2/3 pints but there is not visable leaks.

I have notice that there is white smoke coming out when it running under load, someone said it could be steam but is the head is leaking I though it would eat the water. it seems to use lose water fast when I'm towing (underload) and driving faster (60/70mph would you believe).

Performance wise she feels the same, but I have noticed it is not longer giving me a good 300mile per tank, more like 220mph.

Are there an checks I can run? any suggestions,

top site boys

Forum:

hay all this is amazing
not wanting to blow too much smoke up your butts
but this site is probably the most usefull thing on the net.
ill keep it brief but you got to read on.
had my sporty for about 5 months now and love it. but since picking it up the little engine light pops on
now i will always do my own stuff and will never go to get ripped off by a garage.
any way found your site read abit and learnt about shorting the test plug trick.
i went and did it got 11 flashes, manual said throttle position sensor.
i had a look and found the plug had vibrated loose.
pushed it back together and bingo problem bloody fixed.

Get to know the people

Forum:

I don't know what other people think, but it would be nice to get to know what other's do outwith there obvious keen interest in there 4x4's and if there 4x4's are a part of there other interest's. I personally find my fourtrak of great benefit when I go fishing (getting to out of the way places etc) and also in the interest I share with my good wife Margaret, of horses. I would love to hear what you all think of this?
