confusion with manual hubs

Forum:

Since the snow has arrived I seem to found a new sport for the Winter Olympics!
For some unknown reason I seem to be sliding all other the place at the first sign of any ice or snow in my diahtsu fourtrak!
Please help!
At the moment I think i have my manual hubs locked , does this mean that my trak is driving as a rear wheel drive, cos it sure feels like it.

I have been reading the forum letters and think I may have sussed how to use my 4wheel drive.

Fourtrak heating query

Forum:

I've had my 1997 Fourtrak TDX for 2 years and in this time its proven to be reliable, rock solid and (most importantly) fun.

However, since day one I've always been curious as to why although hot air comes out the foot and windscreen air vents, the air from the vents at the front of the dash is always the same as outside (i.e. freezing this time of the year!). Haven't got a manual to see if this is the norm but suspect it isn't.

Which 4x4

Forum:

Just a quick question...

Which STANDARD 4x4 is best off road , out of all makes and models given a budget of around £1500 to £2000 Unknw

I have had a Suzuki samurai 1.3 and a Sportrak 1.6 and have to say the Daihatsu seems better until you take it up a long steep climb when it just seems a little gutless at the top of the hill .

I have looked at Fourtraks and LWB seems quite low at the towbar but I have never taken one offroad so dont know if it would catch or cause a problem !!?!!

Sportrak 1996 Change of rear shock

Forum:

I am having a problem removing the actuator from the rear shock absorber (three stage). I removed the insection plate removed the two set screws whcih hold the actuator to the fixing plate. Unfortunately i can't get the actuator of the shaft which runs down the centre of the shock. The problem is you need to lift the actuator straight up but it fouls on the floor. To remove you need to tilt the actuator whcih is attached to the shaft.

Thoroughly unimpressed by Sportrak!

Forum:

I've now owned a Sportrak for just over a week and I have to say that I'm thoroughly unimpressed by the whole thing!

For many years I've run series 3 Landrovers. Not the modern tin shopping-trolley rubbish, but proper Landrovers. But when the engine went on my current daily-driver on the way to work a couple of weeks ago I was forced to buy something in a hurry to keep me mobile.

The something I bought was a Sportrak. I thought it might be faster than the Landy, thought it might be more fuel efficient (as it's 20 years younger!) and thought a newer vehicle was less likely to go wrong.

leaf spring / jack-up advice

Forum:

i have just brought a used pair of rear springs from
a spring specialist,

they actually make / re-build etc leaf springs of all types,

i asked about lifting the forutrack up useing the extended shackle technique
and was surprised to hear they can produce me a set of 4 springs
that have been curled up the 2" higher that im looking for,
they say they can re-set the srings and tension them to this,

Newbie question?????????????????

Forum:

About to purchase my first ever 4x4 it’s an M registered sportrak. But one query on the test drive the clutch had a lot of travel to base of vehicle footwall also a bit stiff to get 1st gear in but this could have been my error. After engaging not a lot of clutch release before gear engaged.
Could the clutch be on the way out or is this normal. Forgot to mention all the other gears worked fine.

Best Place for Sporty Rear Leaf Springs?

Forum:

Mine are so past their sell by date that the curve like un upside down bow now, which is not good, and has messed the steering geometry up to no end. So, time to bite the bullet and replace them.

The question is, where is the best/cheapest place to get them form Unknw I have only seen: http://www.japanese4x4spares.co.uk/daih-sport.html which states roughly £57 +vat+delivery, which i assume is each not a pair.
