New Sporty driver needs advice

Forum:

Greetings my fellow sporty owners. I just got my first car, a '94 sporty EXI. The sporty I got is the first petrol vehicle I've driven and I'm slowly getting used to it. There are a couple of things I'm not sure on though and I could do with a little advice on the following:

* Is there meant to be a whining sound when there's a lot of stress on the alternator? I've noticed that when stood still when idling with all the lights on, or when traversing at reasonable speed, there's a distinct whining sound from someplace in the vehicle which I assume is the alternator.

How easy (or hard) is it to fit a clutch?

Forum:

Now ok folks, this may seem like a bit of a silly question but....... here goes!

My '87 TD Fourtrak's clutch has finally gone! Had to be towed by a nice AA man!

Now, with quotes between £340 & 375, I cant realisticly see me being able to afford this repair.
So in comes DIY!!!

Has anybody here tried replacing it themselves? If so how easy was it?

Or am i, with my dire lack of knowledge about twiddly bits and slidy things best to leave alone and save??

Toured around Denmark with Fourtrack F78 ( M Reg) pulling my 15ft Caravan for 6 weeks

Forum:

Just arrived back after a 2000 mile journey from Scotland to
Harwich, a tour of 1,000 miles round Denmark pulling our 15ft
caravan for 6 weeks, absolutely fantastic, I serviced the 1995
F78 Fourtrack myself before my Wife and I left, took a tool kit
and essential spares kit, just in case.Fortunately I needed none
and drove back the 510 miles back from Harwich to Scotland after
a fantastic holiday.By the way, I am 70!

Its happened!!! I do believe my clutch

Forum:

.....is on its way out, resulting in high revs but no power!!!!
Its managable for quick journeys, like 5 mins away but thats but it.

Now ive looked into getting this replaced but im looking around £95 for the clutch kit + another 60-70 for fitting it.

Anybody have any ideas how i can lower this price??

thanx

I know how to drive 'em, race 'em, crash 'em! just not how to fix 'em

Fourtrak Seats and Interior

Forum:

Sorry to post twice but didnt want to group together two totally different topics.

As Well as painting the fourtrak (1987 Diesel) i also want to get the interior sorted out, the carpets are definitely past their best having put up with 20 odd years worth of muddy boots and being used to carry hay etc about. As well as this the front seats have ripped and been patched together many times and are in desperate need of replacement.

Painting My Fourtrak

Forum:

I've had my 1987 fourtrak for about a year now and have been slowly restoring it.

One of the major problems has been how tatty the paint has got over time, and in order to get some sort of paintjob on quickly i'm brush painting the whole thing with black hammerite (Sounds crazy but so far it actually looks fairly good Biggrin !).

The only issue i'm having is that naturally since im brush painting the brush marks are always slightly visible. If however, after rubbing the paint down with very fine wet and dry after a coat (to prepare it for the next coat) i rub a tiny bit of water across it, i get what is a fairly nice smooth shiny black finish until the water evaporates.
