As a new and proud(?) owner of an 1990 4trak I have some pretty basic queries-
What sort of mpg do other drivers get on normal urban driving?
I noticed that when setting off there appears to be a noticeable amount of exhaust (soot rather than oil i.e not blue) is this normal?
The front prop shaft is 'goosed' where the joint/splines should be - when replacing this item where is the cheapest place in the NW to get a replacement and do the bolts which hold it on need to be tightened to a certain torque?

I own and adore my 93 independent 4trak. It has a few niggles which I must get fixed namely the power steering belt it screams loudly in hard lock.
The main problem I have is that on rare occasions it scares me. On the odd random occasion it lurches from side to side when braking firmly on both occasions coming down a fairly steep hill. It is very un-nerving any idea why it does it? Also recently in the black ice it lost it big time and I thought I was going over - all I had been taught steer into the skid and stay off the brakes did not work and it lurched so severely it took me across a ghost island into the main carriageway luckly it was early in the morning no one was around. The only thing that stopped it was braking and it worked instantly. This is my first 4x4 but for my work I have driven for years 4x4's vans and small lorrys without any problem. I was looking forward to the recent snow thinking I could go out to play but crawled around like a snail not really knowing if I could trust the car or not.
I've decided that as my Sportrak has suddenly became a bit sluggish that it is probably best to see if there is any errorcodes showing as i've been told elsewhere that it could be an air intake sensor fault. However after printing out the relevent pages from the service manual i went out. After spending ages looking for the ECU socket i needed. Which was actually hidden under my alarms siren! Annoying place to put an alarm

Im after an old brake hose off a foutrak >93 if someone has an old one laying round somewhere.
I know its a strange request but i want to know the exact fittings/length etc it has on it because i want to see if i can make up a braided stainless steel set as im involved with a firm that makes brakelines.
i see a few scottish owners on today im from glasgow isee one from rothsay and paisley maybe an off road event up here is possible and our fellow diahatsu owners accross border may like to join us

can anybody give me a rough idea what a 1990-91 h reg 2.8 turbo diesel fourtrak, with a knackered turbo a dodgy fuel injecter pump and a good bit of welding on one rear wheel arch and where the wheel arch joins the floor pan is worth,
there about two months mot but that is niether here or there as it cant be run as it is.
have i been bit, i give £200 for it.
HI,FIRST TIME ON HERE,NOT A BAD SITE.IVE JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST FOURTRACK.ITS GONNA BE USED FOR GREENLANING,BUT BY MANUAL HUBS WONT ENGAGE,THE FRONT PROP TURNS WHEN THE FRONT IS JACKED UP BUT THE WHEELS WONT TURN ,THEY SPIN QUITE FREELY WHEN TURNED BY HAND.IS THERE ANYWAY TO SERVICE THEM OR DO I HAVE TO GO TO A GARAGE.MANY THANKS
